VILLAGE KIDS (ongoing)
Youth stays with us as a feeling.
I feel the German country-side when I think of growing up. As I now live in a big city, this isn’t a common experience among my friends. I think of inline skating on paved roads that traveled through small groups of buildings, near a forest, without ever worrying about oncoming traffic. I think of being in my home, wearing pajamas, and looking out with the feeling that I had already seen all this village has to offer. This feeling of freedom in open space often felt restrictive and isolating. This project looks into how the youth are shaped by growing up in my hometown today. Will they stay and be the keepers of this village? Or does the appeal of new experience draw them elsewhere.
